Filter cartridges are packed with activated carbon. This carbon works fast at removing odors， discoloration and impurities. Over time， the carbon deactivates and must be replaced. For best results， it is recommended that you change your Filter monthly.

1. Rinse a new filter cartridge under cool tap water until all of the dust has been removed and the water coming out of the cartridge runs clear.
2. Insert the cartridge into the filter grooves inside of the filter and fill the filter with tap water.
3. Allow the system to filter for at least 24 hours before introducing fish to the tank.
4. Replace the cartridge inside of the filter every 30 days.
Rinse every new cartridge you install so that the coal dust does not enter your aquarium's environment.
