Complete your garden with the Olive Martini Elaeagnus from the Southern Living Plant Collection. This variety differs from typical Elaeagnus because it doesn't put out long growth shoots. Golden-edged leaves provide a complement to just about any exterior decor and landscape palette. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil. This Elaeagnus plant is evergreen for a burst of fresh color year-round. It's ideal as a hedge, focal point, or backdrop since it provides structure and bold color through all seasons. This variety is also suitable for planting on slopes. With mature dimensions as large as 10' x 8', it's an effective choice for creating a sense of privacy in your garden. When planting the Elaeagnus shrub, dig the hole twice as wide as the pot and mix rich garden soil in with the native soil. When you're ready to fill the hole with soil, leave the top of the root ball 0.5" above ground level. This Elaeagnus plant is an ideal choice for USDA hardiness zones 6 through 9. Water it twice a week until it's established and use a slow-release granular fertilizer in spring.
