The PIneapple Guava or Feijoa sellowiana is commonly known as pineapple guava or Guavasteen and is an evergreen perennial shrub or small tree that typically matures to 10-15’ tall.
Pineapple Guava cultivated as an ornamental for its evergreen foliage, flowers and fruit or as a fruiting shrub for harvest of its edible fruit.
It's grown in the U.S. from Florida to Texas and California.
The flowers of the Pineapple Guava are completely edible.
You can eat them right off the plant, toss them into a salad, add them to iced tea, or make jelly.
They have a fruity-sweet-with-a-little-tang flavor.
The fruit will show up in the fall and is ripe when they drop off of the shrub.
The Pineapple Guava's kiwi-sized fruit has waxy green skin and soft succulent flesh similar to a pear in texture.
The green fruit develops a sweet fragrance even before it fully ripens in the fall.
Pineapple Guava tastes like a cross between pineapple and guava with a hint of mint.
Cut the fruit in half and scoop the pulp with a spoon for a delicious treat.
Plants need to be subjected to cool night temperatures from the 20's- 50's for successful flowering. Plants are APPROX 5"-12"+ tall and Shipped BARE ROOT
