Scleranthus Biflorus, Australian Astroturf: Scleranthus biflorus, Australian Astroturf is a member of the Carnation family. It looks very much like a moss, but it is an emerald green ground cover with a dense, cushioned feel. It grows just 3" tall and up to 3' across. Native to Australia, it looks best when it tumbles tightly over rocks, carpets a container, or is used as edging in a rock garden. Use it as a base in a border for growing spring bulbs that will flower through it. It also can be used in a retaining wall, miniature garden, or fairy garden.
