The Nephrolepis Exaltata 'Bostoniensis', aka the Boston Fern or Sword Fern, is a species of fern that can grow as tall as 7-feet in its native habitat. The frilly greenery and being one of the easiest ferns to care for and maintain have earned the Boston Ferns their popularity as being a classic indoor plant. They are found in humid forests and swamps all over the world, but this particular fern and its distinctive arching fronds are a mutation from the straight fronds of a standard sword fern. Boston Ferns love humidity and its soil should be moist but not soggy, making it the perfect plant to keep in your bathroom if daily misting is too much of a chore. Their natural habitat of dappled shade means indirect light is best for these beauties, and are the perfect plants to place on covered balconies and porches in a hanging basket, but need to be brought indoors in the winter. As hardy as it is, make sure to follow these simple tips, for a lush and vibrant plant.
