Grown by United Nursery, the Hibiscus plant is a tropical beauty that will bring an exotic flair to your garden. They are durable plants that can grow to be up to 15 feet in height, and the colorful blooms will attract hummingbirds and butterflies to your garden. Since hibiscus plants are tropical, they need a certain amount of care to ensure that they thrive. Provide the plants with at least six hours of sunlight, especially if you want to see those lovely blooms. Although warm, humid conditions are ideal for tropical hibiscus, you may want to provide a little afternoon shade when it's overly hot. Again, containers make this easy to do. While the hibiscus plant needs a lot of sun, it's very important that you shelter it away from the wind. The stems are more susceptible to breakage if you get the taller varieties of hibiscus, so place them in an area where wind is not going to be much of a factor. If you are having trouble blooming the hibiscus, it's wise to remove as many deadheads as possible to encourage the growth.

  • The hibiscus likes to be planted in soil that is slightly acidic. Hibiscus need moist soil to grow, but it also needs to be drained well. The best way to ensure that the plant will be getting adequate water is to use an irrigation system that will drain out any excess water.
  • A hibiscus plant will flourish the most in temperatures that remain between 60 degrees Fahrenheit and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Once the temperatures start coming close to the 32 degree Fahrenheit mark, the plants must remain indoors so that the cold weather does not cause damage to the plant.
  • We do not recommend shipping to extremely cold weather states, according to ASPCA this plant is toxic to pets, not for human consumption, each live plant will be slightly different, thus the plant you receive may vary from the photo representation, measurements are taken from the bottom of the pot to the top of the plant
